Washington Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Last updated October 31, 2026 · Effective October 31, 2026
This policy explains how Steppagotchi, operated by [LEGAL ENTITY TBD] ("we"), handles consumer health data under Washington's My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373). It applies to consumers in Washington and to consumer health data collected in Washington. Our general Privacy Policy is at steppagotchi.com/privacy.
Consumer health data we collect, and why
- Step and activity data: daily step counts read from Apple Health (HealthKit) with your permission, and the goals, streaks, streak shields and revives, and rest days based on them. Used to grow your pet, track your goal and streaks, show your history, run free challenges and, in Pro, insights and adaptive goals.
- Step summaries sent to cloud AI (only if you turn the feature on): today's steps, your goal and your streak, used to write a walk plan when your iPhone can't make one on the device.
- Crisis support: if the app detects signs of a crisis, it shows support resources (such as 988) and pauses goals, quests, offers and notifications until midnight. The pause is stored only on your device and is cleared at midnight. We never store or send the content that triggered it. If we count how often the support screen is shown, we do so only in aggregate, never linked to you, your account or your device.
- Inferences: your pet's mood and your streak status, derived from your step data and used only inside the app.
We do not collect precise location, biometric data, or reproductive or sexual health data, and we do not use consumer health data for advertising.
Where we get it
- From you, in the app.
- From Apple Health on your iPhone, with your permission.
- Data created by the app from the above (for example, streaks and pet mood).
Consumer health data we share, and with whom
We share consumer health data only as needed to provide the features you ask for:
- Service providers (processors) that host our app and run cloud AI for us under contract: Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, storage and Workers AI). For cloud AI, we send only the step summary described above, without your name, email or account ID. Cloudflare may not use it for its own purposes or to train AI models.
- Apple, as the platform provider (Apple Health stays on your device and in your Apple account; purchases go through Apple).
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
We have no affiliates that receive consumer health data.
Consent
We ask for your consent before we collect consumer health data, and separately before we share it (for example, the switch for each cloud AI feature). You can say no and still use the parts of the app that don't need it. We will ask again before collecting or sharing new categories of consumer health data, or using it for new purposes.
We do not sell consumer health data
We do not sell consumer health data. We would never do so without your signed, valid authorization as required by RCW 19.373.070.
No geofencing
We do not use geofences around health care facilities or anywhere else.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- confirm whether we collect, share or sell your consumer health data, and access it, including a list of all third parties and affiliates we shared it with, with their contact information;
- withdraw your consent to our collecting and sharing your consumer health data;
- delete your consumer health data (we also tell our processors to delete it, and data in backups is deleted within 30 days);
- appeal if we decline your request.
How to exercise them:
- In the app: Settings, Account, Privacy requests; or Settings, Account, Delete account. Turn off sharing for cloud AI in Settings, AI, and stop step access in iPhone Settings, Health, Data Access.
- By email: support@steppagotchi.com, subject "Washington health data request".
We may need to confirm your identity, using information already linked to your account. We will respond within 45 days of receiving your request. We may extend this once by another 45 days when reasonably necessary, and will tell you why. Requests are free up to twice a year.
Appeals
If we decline your request, in whole or in part, you can appeal by emailing support@steppagotchi.com with the subject "Appeal" within 45 days. We will respond in writing within 45 days, explaining what we did and why. If we deny your appeal, you can contact the Washington State Attorney General at www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.
